Windows operating systems have an advance GUI based service management console. With this console you can configure all the setting related to a service with ease. But many people don’t know about the Command Line utility of Windows that can be used to enable or disable a service. In this tutorial we will learn how to perform this task from the command prompt. For the purpose of this tutorial we will be starting and stopping BITS service.

How to enable a service from Command Prompt

Go to the windows command prompt i.e. cmd.exe and type the following command:-

Prompt>> sc start [service name]

How to disable a service from Command Prompt

Again Go to the command prompt and type this command:-

Prompt>> sc stop [service name]

And if you want to check the status of the service you can use this command:-
